Congress Greenlights Bill to Make Public Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to a bill that will force the release of investigative files associated with the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, after a almost unanimous vote in the US House of Representatives and a shift by the president and his GOP allies. The White House gave in after months of trying to delay the joint action involving a controversy that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by consensus, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, speeding up the process. Just before, the House voted decisively for the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

Citizens have endured sufficient delay. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited patiently,” Chuck Schumer stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to adopt it by consent. “Uncover the facts. Let transparency reign.”

Future Action

This legislation next heads to Donald Trump for his endorsement. He indicated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Though Trump has for months rejected the outcry over the authorities' approach of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he signalled his support for the legislation over the weekend, and announced he would give his assent if it is presented to him.

Reaction

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their supporters who were present in a House gallery, applauded after the bill was passed. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who expressed concern he worried the measure would disclose specific data of people, persons of interest and others caught up in the investigation.
